I am 53 years old, and single mother to two teenaged sons. Trained as an anthropologist, I have made the cross-cultural study of death rituals my personal domain. I've traveled the world, read all I can get my hands on...and it's still not enough!

Happy Sunday!

I've had a remarkable morning. I've been without my car since last Thursday - it's in the shop for minor servicing. This has forced us all back to public transportation; a good thing, really, unless you are pressed for time.

Well, this morning, I chose to RUN to the next town, instead of wait for the bus. Now, I just turned 51, and my running has become more sporadic since I started working for myself...but, I knew I could do it. Has that ever happened to you? You just "feel it in your bones" that you could do something...and followed through with it?

I made it in 40 minutes. Now, its only about 4 miles away, and traffic along our "corridor" highway was nice and light...but I was sincerely happy with the 10 minute mile average.

I hope your morning's been full of similar "quiet" successes.

Death Rites, the book, as well as TouchStones: Reflections on the American Philosophy of Death are both nearly completed - right on schedule. That pleases me too. I've written three more articles for funeral services trade magazines, and will have one of my photos on the cover of American Cemetery soon.

Summer is in full swing here in the Santa Cruz mountains - mornings are foggy and cold, and the afternoon sunshine is clear and bright.

Life is good...

Wishing you all the best week you can imagine.
